Working for the Metro in Chicago I created a 3 color poster silkscreen poster for the band Starfucker. In print they often use the letters STRFKR. This poster has a very graphic shapes which will make printing alot easier. Here are some pics from the process:

After burning the screens > mixing the first color:

Layer 1 light pint, there seems to be quite a bit of show through with the pink on the black paper this is going to require a few hits to make it opaque. Its going to be a long night.

NOSTALGIA PART ONE: NOVICE SKATEBOARDING

Nostalgia used to be so much better . . . to paraphrase a quote from John Hodgman. Here are a few shots from my limited skateboard abilities when I was a younger upstart. The animated gif was made with a toy camera photos by Ken Richardson.

Ever wanted to run away with the circus? Let the band Cirkestra be your soundtrack with its brand of eastern European circus music. I worked with Cirkestra on their winter tour poster that I hand lettered (the main type) and made a 5 color silkscreen. Check them out if you get a chance but don’t forget your fez.

Delia Richardson stopped by the studio to be on press for her 6th birthday invites. She wanted a butterfly with the number 6 on it, and we used a transparent yellow so when it overprinted blue to get the greens. Once again Debo Band is hitting the road, this time to support their first LP that is being released on Sub Pop. They asked me to create a silkscreen poster for the tour. It’s been a big year for this 11 piece band from JP check them out their kicks off at Brighton Music Hall in Allston on July 11, this show has to been seen to be believed more info here. . .

I printed these very cool postcards for the MIT Media Lab that were designed by Nina Wishnok. I added a lot of extender base to the gray and there is a metallic silver printed over that on a really nice and smooth black paper. This picture is not doing it justice the values and and tints change as you move it in the light. Please forgive my ink-stained thumb it’s an occupational hazard.

Here is a new art print that I just finished this weekend. It features dogs roaming around red buildings, not sure what it means but I hope its fun to look at. This is the most colors I have printed using a total of 8 layers, many are subtle transparent layers. Note to self get a better camera.

I just finished screenprinting this limited edition cd packaging. . . (4 over 2) for Devil Music Ensemble. DME is one of those bands that can not be pinned down, they have the ability to shape shift but always with a signature style. I have been checking them out for years seeing their live soundtracks to Modern Times, Nosferatu, and the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, to name a few. They are gearing up to perform a live soundtrack to the 1929 silent martial arts film Red Heroine. Check them out at Mass Art on March 10 before they take the show on the road to perform at a festival in China. . .
